A dual diagnosis treatment center handles more complex psychological issues in the sense that it solves two psychological problems in one person all at the same time. The problems of patients in dual diagnosis treatment centers may be a combination of alcoholism, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, autism, other substance abuse disorders and the like.
A dual diagnosis is different from a single psychological disorder since individuals may have the combination of both organic and psychological problems at the same event. A common example would be a depressed individual who keeps using alcohol and other drugs to solve depression. Another example is in counseling sessions and in group sessions. In terms of counseling, one doctor should approach one patient differently from the other depending on the disease of the patient. In terms of group sessions, individuals are group with a commonality. Individuals who are schizophrenics or individuals who have bipolar disorders may have more difficulties when it comes to participating in group events.
A dual diagnosis treatment center may be hard to find especially if you are looking for a good one. A lot of clinics claim that they can handle dual treatment disorders even if they can’t. A good indicator in identifying if a dual diagnosis treatment center is good is on the number of successfully treated dual diagnosed patients. Generally, a patient with a dual diagnosis is difficult to treat because of the complex disorder that they have. Some of these individuals have organic problems that they acquired when they were born; while some of these individuals have numerous relapsing cases that almost make it impossible to treat.

In finding a good dual diagnosis treatment center, clients should know the qualifications of the health professionals who will handle the patient. Knowing the credentials of doctors and nurses who would be treating the patient is a must to identify if they are competent enough to handle the case or not. It is also good to know if they are treating or if they have treated any patients with a dual diagnosed disorder. The success of treatment of a dual diagnosis treatment center gives a good chance that the patient would be treated successfully like what they have promised.
In conclusion, finding a dual diagnosis treatment center is relatively easy, but finding a competent one is difficult. A good dual diagnosis treatment center has the capability to treat properly any most individuals who are proven to have a dual diagnosed problem.
